What questions in spirituality stand out for you the most?

Wonderful question.

Three spiritual questions stand out.

First:

What should I do?

Underlying nearly every inquiry I’ve ever had is some version of this question. What should I do? What should I think, believe, pursue, avoid, trust, become?

For decades I searched for an answer in a clean objective space, with many insightful encounters with futility along the way.

Second:

How do I get myself to do what I should do?

Here and now, the right action is often not mysterious. Given three brain cells, I usually already know the decent next thing.

The real question is how.

How do I actually get myself to do what I sincerely should be doing?

That seems to seek an embodied solution of actual action rather than an intellectual answer.

Third:

How is it possible that anything exists at all?

The third is barely even a question anymore, but I arrived there through years of questioning. I consider it the fundamental miracle: that anything exists at all.

Not merely why this or that exists, but that existence itself is even possible.

Over the years, I’ve grown beyond trying to intellectually solve it and more toward an orientation of awe.

These are the three that stand out most:

How is there anything at all?
